Ok.. joke apart, it means Common Rate Direct injection (CRDi)
Its a specification for the engines.

Common rail direct fuel injection (CRDI) is a modern variant of direct injection system for diesel engines. It features a high-pressure (1000+ bar) fuel rail feeding individual solenoid valves, as opposed to low-pressure fuel pump feeding pump nozzles or high-pressure fuel line to mechanical valves controlled by cams on the camshaft. Third generation common rail diesels now feature piezoelectric injectors for even greater accuracy, with fuel pressures up to 180 MPascal / 1800 bar.

The Expansion of CRD l is - Common Rail Diesel Injection.

There r different method of Fuel supply/Injection technology used in the Diesel Engine.

The Efficiency & Fuel Consumption of the Diesel Engine depends upon many parameters, out of which Fuel Injection Technology plays a vital role.

In earlier technology the Diesel is directly pumped by the Injection pump to the mechanial Injector. As there is a dirct connecton between the Pump & Injector it is difficult to control the time & quantity of the Injection.

CRD l is an advanced Injection technology of the Diesel Engine where the Diesel pumped by a Injection pump is sent to a Comman gallery called RAIL which is always maintained at constant high pressure. From Rail the diesel is sent to the Electronically controlled Injector where it gets injected into the cylinders. As the Injector receives Diesel from the common pressurised gallery it is easier to control the time & quantity of the Injection accurately.

CRD l stands for Common rail direct injection. every engine needs a system which delivers the fuel in to the combustion chambers. Older diesel engines had distributor type injector pump that supplied diesel to the chambers according to their firing order through nozzles. In the case of CRDI, the distributor pump has been replaced by injectors that r controlled electronically. With CRD l precise measurements of fuel can be supplied according to the engine requirement at that particular point of time. CRD l engines r more efficient & responsive than the older technology engines.
